TIME: 4.30 - 8.00 pm

There has been some changes as to how the production registration is going to run this year. Previous years this has been known as Production Casting but after much consideration, have decided to change it to production registration as it's NOT a casting where dancers are being left out in participating in production.

Definition and Purpose of Production Registration:
This is to help both old and new members to better understand which style/genre of dance suit them more. Please take note- This is NOT an audition!

How it's going to be run:
Everyone is going to learn 3 short routines of different genres ( contemporary / jazz / urban) then given 10 mins to rehearse. In groups of 5-8, you'll dance these 3 short routines in a separate room. After that, you are free to leave or hang around and mingle.

What happens after:I will then gather all the information i have, and put you in the pieces which i think best suit the style of your dance. You will then receive an email from each respective choreographer who's piece you've been casted into.

Please read the below carefully as there have been some new changes to how dancers are being selected in each piece this year.This year things are different as this registration is NOT MADE COMPULSORY. However, priority will be given to those who attend. Below is a summary of most prioritised to least.

1) Dancers who attended registration and are casted into the specific piece. (HIGHEST PRIORITY)
2) Dancers who attended registration but not casted into the specific piece.
3) Dancers who DID NOT ATTEND registration (LOWEST PRIORITY GIVEN)

I strongly encourage BOTH old and new members to attend this registration as it will greatly give you a better understanding of your own dance style. Or you could also take it as a challenge to learn 3 short routines in a short time frame (:

Dear members of Flare Dance Ensemble,

A warm welcome to Flare and i hope you all have enjoyed the classes so far. Do take note that the schedule for each class changes every week so remember to always check the Timetable!

As most of you know, Flare has an annual production sometime near end of semester 2. As Flare's Artistic Director, i would like to extend an invitation to all interested choreographers to please reply to this email. This is a great opportunity for you to showcase your choreography to friends and family. More details will be announced when the list of choreographers is confirmed.

Just to give you an insight of how the annual production runs. Each piece runs for a maximum of 5 mins which includes various genres, ie contemporary, jazz, urban, hiphop, modern etc.A production piece differs from a gig routine as it is a whole piece by itself whereas a gig routine is a combination of a few short routines. If you would like to know more or have any queries, please do not hesitate to send me an email.**Please send your interest by 5th April. Applications will NOT be entertained after that.

For those that missed out on Flare's performance at Night Market on Thursday night and wanted to be there in person to support them, don't fret! The committee is proud to say that..

Flare will be performing at Box Hill's Asia Now charity event THIS coming Saturday 31st March !

We were kindly approached by the organisers of Asia Now who thought Flare would take peoples breaths away.. In which WE WILL!!! :)

The event is at Box Hill which is half hr away from the CBD. Those wanting to go and support Flare there are two ways to get there..

1. Meet up with Flare on the day and train it together.
Where: Melbourne Central Station (In front of Coles)
Time: 12pm on the DOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Come late and you'll be travelling by yourself)
Train line: Belgrave. Stop at Box Hill. From there its only a 2 min walk to the venue down Bank St.

2. Drive there or get there by yourself. :)

Flare's schedule performance time will be 2pm.
Entyze (Please support your fellow Flarians) performance time will be 4pm.

Hope you all are excited because another event is coming up.. Wait for it.. Wait for it..

FLARE DANCE ENSEMBLE will be guest performing at this years Annual MUOSS Nightmarket! Whoop! Whoop!

For those that don't know what MUOSS Nightmarket is, it's an event hosted by Melbourne Uni Overseas Student Society (Am I correct?) which is like a mini festival in the grounds of Melbourne Uni. There will be food stalls, games, performances and of course FLARE~! :D

Unfortunately, unlike previous years, the committee members have decided that Flare will NOT be having a booth this year. But there will without a doubt be a special performance by Flare on stage at 8PM sharp!

So come down and support your fellow Flarians who shall be getting jiggy with it on stage. This years Flare performance will consist of 6 dance acts. Make sure you come down and support them.

MUOSS Nightmarket starts at 6pm and ends at 9pm and will be located on Concrete Lawn. (Next to Union House) Entry is free.

Hello Flarians !

Hope you're all pumped up for our next event, our annual FLARE WELCOMING PICNIC this coming Saturday (10/03). Whoop! Whoop!

The picnic will be a great way to get to know your fellow Flare dancers as well as the committee members of 2012 for those that don't know who we are. There will be food provided also some games to get you mingling.

So here's the low down..

Venue: University Sq, Melbourne University (opp the main uni entrance on Grattan St) | Look for red balloons!
Date: 10th March (Saturday)
Time: 3pm to 5pm
Fee: $5 for food and fun

As you can see there will be a small payment for each person attending the picnic. This is to cover the cost of food. Payment can be made to any of committee members after Flare classes this week including Saturday's classes.

Also just to inform everyone, this is a MEMBERS only event. Your membership card must be present on the day, so please do NOT invite your friends/non members along to this picnic unless they are here to signup for memberships or don't mind paying for all our food ☺

Welcome to the new and familiar faces to Flare Dance Ensemble 2012.
We are pleased to announce that Flare will be having its first event for 2012, Flare’s Open Week.

This will be a great opportunity for new members as well as former members to experience what it is like to be a Flarian. There are 12 classes in total that would be conducted during Open Week. Classes will be taught by experienced Flare members and they will include bboy jamming, jazz, ballet, urban, contemporary, modern and kpop, just to name a few. ALL classes are not only for Flare members but is also opened to the general public. So if you know someone who likes to dance, wants to be part of a group, unsure what Flare is all about, wants to make friends or is free, come along to the Open Week.

There will also be sign-ups after classes, so if you haven't signed up with Flare Dance Ensemble and is still interested you can come down and do it on the spot. Membership is $15 for the WHOLE YEAR which includes entry to ALL our dance classes.

First class starts tomorrow (Tuesday) at 6pm. Info will be as followed:

What: Flare Open Week
When: Tuesday (28th) Wednesday (29th) Thursday (1st) and Sunday (4th)
Where: Ministry of Dance (Address above)
Time: Tues - Thurs 6pm - 9pm / Sunday 2pm - 5pm

How to get there:
Take the Route 57 TRAM towards West Maribyrnong or the Route 59 TRAM towards Airport West from the city and alight at stop 22 (Boundary Rd/Racecourse Rd. MOD is only a short walk from there. Flare will have escorts before each class for guidance.

Learn how to dance in the rain or shine.

It’s that time of year again. I hope you all are excited cause in a few days time it’ll be happening all over again. Friendship will be made, music will be played and dance will be in our soul.

O’week is just around the corner which means FLARE DANCE ENSEMBLE!

If dance is all you ever think about, dream about, or hoped about, then Flare will be the perfect club for you. Here we teach a variety of dance styles from urban to jazz, to contemporary and breaking, Flare has got it all. This is a non for profit student run society which was first sprung into the spotlight in 2000 by founder Jane Khoo.

Flare will be having its own booth to allow new students as well as former students to come and sign up for the upcoming year.

Event details are below:

When: Thursday 23rd / Friday 24th February
Where: Wilson Hall, University of Melbourne
Time: 11 am - 3pm
Cost: $15 (Early bird membership fee! Get on it!)

Also happening on both days will be a special performance by Flare members!

South Court (right outside the Apple Store of Union House)

Times:
2:30pm on Thursday
12:15pm on Friday

The performance will consist of 4 dancing numbers and Friday’s performance will be in-conjunction with Melbourne Uni Bboys' O-Week jam session. So come down and support your fellow Flarians work it out on stage as well as the Bboys :)

Once again the year has come to an end as Flare Dance Ensemble closes its chapter with yet another successful annual production: Illusions In Motion! May our journey & endeavours lead us to even greater heights in the following years!
